91 Mariner 75 hp hard to start

I have a 91 Mariner 75 hp that is hard to start and when I do get it started the exhaust pops about once every 10 seconds or so sometimes hard enuf to kill the motor.

Could be a number of things...timing, carbs and even reeds...we need more information on how long it has been sitting, how old is the gas and what has been done to the motor that you know of...we need a starting point.....

Forgot to add...it sounds like a "Lean" sneeze from what you describe...Carb problem....

I figured it was the carbs I replaced the plugs, fuel filter, and put new fuel connections on the motor because I had a leak. Its been sitting for about 2 years, i also replaced the trim motor and rebuilt the tilt/trim cylinders and they work but when i go to top off the fluid while I,m adding it the fluid begins to rise back out.
