Just resently developed a problen when trying to get up on plane. When I put the throttle down it is very sluggish(like running on 2 cylinders). As I continue coming out of the hole at various times the motor will "kick in"(like running on all 4 cylinders) It is very noticable and the boats actually "lurches" forward. I understand this is a 2+2 motor and at itle only runs on cyl 1&2. Any Help out there? Common Problem? Potential Fixes??

Re: 1996 Mercury 115 hole shot

do you have a racing prop on the motor? if so you might have different slip due to exhaust holes in the prop hub out the side of the prop and the amount of slip changes as more exhaust occurs. this may be the problem because since you said it runs on 2 cylinders while at idle and 4 later on in the rpm range. this creates more slip which will make the boat almost leap out of the water. you may also not have the right prop pitch for the type of engine, conditions, and type of hull.
