Just replaced the water pump on a mid 90s mariner 150. Tested on muffs
and water didnt come out at first i guess thermostats had to open and then water
comes out but not steady seems like its surging in gushes at higher reving , then
when i idle her down hardly nothing comes out . I pushed the muffs up good on her do
you think i have pump problem used old gaskets they looked good.

T-stats control the "p" stream, cooler water and no load on the hose can cause erratic p stream.

A water pressure guage is a much better indicator of water pump health.

On top of the engine, just aft the flywheel is a pipe taped hole. It may have a plug init, or a fitting. Either way, that's where the pressure gauge is hooked up.

Just noticed you re-used the gaskets. Gaskets compress to the shape of the parts involved, including any debris in the joint or other irregularities. That's why a gasket is used. When you re-use them, you're asking for trouble. They only cost a few dollars, so why take the risk.

Hope it helps
John
