Can someone please point me in the right direction to find a repair manual for a 1985 Yamaha made Mariner outboard, 25hp. I have lower unit lube leaking out from behind the prop and assume I need to replace some seals. Not sure if the manuals that cover multiple years as well as multiple horse power is what I should be getting.

Bosco;

Depends what s/n you have, therefore if you can give us the s/n and model number if you have it, I'll get the manual number for you.

Re: Repair Manual needed for Yamaha made Mariner

Bosco;

I am afraid those numbers do not provide enough information but 689 indicates a Yamaha 1979-85 30hp build.

S/ns for 1985 30hp.

30 M 689B-004301 - 1985
30 ML 689B-303783 - 1985
30A M 689-024557 - 689-027666 1985
30A ML 689-323527 - 689-326881 1985
30A E 689-106355 - 689-107568 1985
30A EL 689-413869 - 689-416198 1985

The 25hp for 1985 would be these:

25 A136189 - A946440 1985
25C M 695-025668 - 695-027917 1985
25C ML 695-319959 - 695-321941 1985
25C E 695-254279 - 695-254601 1985
25C EL 695-556364 - 695-556900 1985
25 M 694-034520 - 1985
25 ML 694-358374 - 1985

Is there not a plate on the transom mount with any information on it?

Re: Repair Manual needed for Yamaha made Mariner

I can see a spot on the side of the transom mount where a plate may have been mounted at one time but it is not there now. I pulled off the cover and found another number 69501 Y-2, I'm guessing this is just a part number though.

Without the proper number identification, what do you suggest I do.

Also, thanks alot Gerry for your time and help on this so far.

Missing Serial numbers, eh? Take the first 3 numbers ,(689), that Gerry mentioned indicated the HP build.
Then followed by the numbers on your freeze plug would most likely give you your motors serial number.
BTW the freeze plug is that round ,size of a coin, plug on the waterjacket of your block.
Then go to http://www.storesonline.com/site/573683/page/608045 and look up your year etc.
Letter code could represent...
Letter M = Manual Start? ML = Manual start with lighting stator? or longshaft? E =Electric Start? S =Shortshaft?
Hope this helps you on your way
