My electric start 15 hp merc flywheel is part marked 260 818540C, and of course has the ring gear bolted on. It has loose magnets, plus one broken. Does anyone know if the gear ring is the only difference between the manual start flywheel which displays the same numbers, and the electric? In other words, can I just move the gear ring to the manual start flywheel, and I'm home free?

Alternately, I could re-bond magnets with jb weld, I gather. One magnet is whole, and the other in 2 (1/4 - 3/4) pieces. I assume the 3/4 piece would just generate a bit less power but still work?

Are new magnets available anywhere?

Re: 1994 15 hp mercury flywheel magnets

new flywheel installed and running. New shifting problem discovered.....
Jambs frequently in forward (prop off in test tank). Linkage in power head is ok from tiller handle to shift rod. I can see the lower unit shift rod flexing sideways when I try to shift into neutral (at the reverse lock actuator). Problem at the shift cam / cam follower maybe? is there a way to remove the prop shaft assembly WITHOUT having the special bearing carrier tool?
