I am not familiar with this era Mercury. I mostly have OMC. There is a small 1/2" D tube at the bottom rear of the powerhead. There is much blue smoke coming out. No water. Fuel/oil is 25:1. Should there be water coming out as an indicator? Since exhaust is normally through prop hub, is this a sign of a leaking gasket or other malfunction?

Short answer is No. The tube is an exhaust relief for when the motor is running but not moving. Same set up on your Johnson except the Johnny has the relief lower down.

25:1 was what was in the tank. Not sure if this takes 25:1 or 50:1 so erred on the safe side. It was only for the first run, about 10 minutes.
