when I perform the self-diagnosis test on my engine, the light comes on for about 4 sec. this happens even if i do not start the engine. Then the light stays off. According to the manual the light should blink on every 5 seconds. I think i am doing the procedure correct because it did indicate a bad shift position switch with a code of 28. I jumped the switch out to clear that code and redid the procedure now I am getting the one 4 sec. light on then off and stays off.

what kind of test light are you using?
that ECU wont display codes on the lamp unless they are active.

The light is just a common 12v automotive bulb with two leads. I am connecting one lead to a blue/white wire bullet terminal and the other end to the test plug on the lower right terminal, from memory I think it is the red/blank wire.

but the shift position switch on that F115 wont affect running above idle speeds.
