I have a 2 stroke 1996 mariner long shaft 25hp outboard with electric start. These mariners are the same as the mercuries of the same year (not the Japan-made Mariners).
I looked at the factory manual for this motor and I see the directions to service the impeller once the lower unit is off-- nothing strange here, it seems. But I don't see how to disconnect the lower unit. After a close look, I'm not sure I see where the shift shaft disconnect is. Does anybody know the procedure to disconnect the shift shaft?
Don't be afraid to spell it out like you're talking to an idiot. I just got this motor and don't know where everything is in this guy yet.
