Mercury 65 hp lower unit help

I am thinking of picking up a nice crabbing boat. Very very good price!!! Has an early 70's mercury 65hp. Needs a lower unit.

I have a merc 50 and 80 of the same vintage here for parts. Anyone know if these lowers would work or not????

I believe that LU was the same ones on the 50-115? Go to Boats.net and compare the part #'s for the cases and gears. That might help.

The 50 wont work but the 80 will if its off a 4 cyl 80. All the earlier 4 cylinder motors (650/800/850) are 2:3:1 ratio....

Yes, it is the 4 cyl 80 hp as well as 4 cyl 65. I did buy the boat tonight, what a deal, sooooo clean. All original in excellent shape. Got it for a song.

Anyway, the motor looks just like my 80hp parts motor. both have red stripes too!!

Gonna try the swap tomorrow!!!

Put the lower from the 80hp on today. Worked perfect!!! New impeller too. Should be ready to go!!! Thanks for the help!!!
