Hi, I have a 1988 mercury, 115 hp.

What is the pulse and pole setting for this motor?

On the back of my tach I have the numbers 1 thru 4, which number would represent the pulse/pole specs?

Thanks in advance!

Normally we use 6p. Do you know if that tach is compatable with Mercs? You can look up the model number and find out.

yes it is a mercury tach for outboards!

so with the 4 settings I have 1,2,3 and 4 which one would represent 6?

Do you know what the rpm's should read at idle?

Thanks

RPM at idle will be between 800 and 1100. Look on the manufacturers website for the installation instructions or configuration instructions.

Re: 115 mercury (1988)- tach setting

don't mean to be a pain but I am stumped.
I cannot find the merc tach website.

At full out I am running at 5400 rpm's. It dropsto 5000 at about 3/4 throttle. I am thinking it is running to high? The motor sounds like it is purring nicely and is working great.

Currently I have it set at 6P.

Would appreciate any advice?

6P is the correct setting and it sounds like it is working fine.

Mercs like to spin much better than being luged. WOT for your Merc is 5000-5500. Seems like you have it perfect, most like to prop for 5500-6000 WOT, but don't run WOT very often unless you are 100% sure your fuel system is good, they run 4600 all day real nice.
