The drive engages the flywheel correctly but does not retract all the time causing the engine to turn the starter while running. I have applied lube to the parts but it stills hangs up. Do I need a new starter?
Clean the shaft the bendix rides up and down on thoroughly then lightly lube. Twist it up manually then let go, it should fall back down if you cleaned it good enough.
