I have what I was told is a 1992 Mariner. It is a 4 cyl and has one single cowl lid and not the old clam shell style. It has a red stator. How can I find out if I need a 9 amp or 16 amp? Is there a way to id this part? There is not an id tag on the nager bracket. I have also attached a pic since I posted this question before and was asked for one.
Thanks!

you need to post the year , serial number and hp - hopefully ican get you away from the red stator - they are notorious for failing .

good catch. It is a 115. The tag is gone and I cant find any other id #'s on the engine.

on the side of the engine block look for a brass or shiny round metal plug - there should be numbers on it - other than that can you post the part number on the old stator ?

If the engine has CDM modules you have to use the "red stator" or its replacement kits. If it has a standard switch box it has the adapter on the stator, just junk it and stator and install a standard stator
