I have a older mercury outboard 1982, 50hp. When the starter engages the fly wheel, it cranks over just fine, but just when it starts to fire up the starter kicks out. After a few times of this, it finely starts up. Could someone tell me what part might be going, or should I replace the starter.

your starter is working as normal - and forgive me if i sound rude but based on what you posted ,i would highly reccomend you take it to a mechanic or start learning some mechanics -sorry if it sounds un-polite but you need to have some mechanical knowledge to benefit from any info given here .

The starter is designed to kick out, when the motor fires. In this case the motor is firing, but not sufficiently to start. Usually this means time for a tune up.....
