40e mariner (yamaha) fuel pump cross reference

i have a 40e mariner 85 mod that is made by yamaha and i need the fuel pump assembly. i broke mine trying to remove the inside plate when rebuilding. i found a full assembly for a 40 yamaha ('85), they look identical cosmetically, that is half of what a pump for the mariner oem replacement.....will the yamaha pump work on my mariner?

The early mariners (japanese) were often referred to as 'yamaha/mariner', especially the smaller HP range. They were built in the yamaha factory on the yamaha assembly line. The proof is often in the serial number.

My honest belief is that they are identical although i have never compared them side by side.

i think im going to try it. the motor has the yamaha emblem on the recoil starter so it is a yamaha...or my recoil rewinder is any way

this is whats on rewinder under the cowling
