I have a 1968 Mercury 1000ss inline 6, (100hp). My serial number is 2411649
How do I know if my motor is a K model. My motor has Kiekhaefer on the original front of the motor. When I look up my motor under k models, I see other models (such as 1100ss) but there isn't a 1000ss under k models. I see a 1000 and a 1000bp , a 1000 super bp, but no 1000ss.

The 1000 in 67-69 falls within the serial number bracket, and looks like my motor. I a little confused because I've seen it mentioned that Kiekhaefer means k model....but the 1000ss isn't showing as a k model. I guess that I need to confirm this before I start looking for parts.

The Parts that I looking for is:
393-2918a6 (ignition trigger) used, rebuilt and aftermarket are all unavailable so far.

393-1927a9 (distributor cap part) (none available so far)

The last part is a solenoid for the trim/tilt. It has started clicking when I tilt, and won't enguage. The trim works fine. When I look my motor up (on parts distributors online), most of the 67-69 models show a part number. Mine doesn't. Any help is appreciated.

Re: 1968 merc 1000ss inline 6 (hard to find parts)

Hi,
I'm coming to your post late but if you are still watching this, can you let me know what you found out? I'm having similar issues. My motor is a 1968 Mercury 1000. The cowling (if it is the original) doesn't say anything to tell me if it is a 1000, 1000BP or 1000 SS etc. Most parts lookup places don't separate the separate models. . HOwever the maurermarine site (maurermarine.com) has a lookup that has helped me a little. I see that my serial number crosses into the listing for both the 1000 model and the 1000 ss

However I was looking to replace a switchbox and rectifier. The rectifier appearance and part number for the 1000 for 1968 and my serial number is very different than the one for the 1000ss. The parts diagram for the 1000ss shows my style rectifier. I'm guessing since the whole system is designed for proper mounting of the switch box and rectifier and that I used the factory part in the proper holes that this must be my motor. Did you find any other way to find out?

My serial is 2413225 close to yours.

Thanks for whatever info you found.
