A buddy gifted me an old Super 5 he was having trouble with, and I got it running this past weekend. But, I can't tell if it's pumping water or not.

Does this motor have the standard little whizz hole in the back or does it push it's waste water out the exaust. I found a little tiny hole that looks like it could be a tell tale water return, but I just don't know.

It's a neat little motor! I don't want to burn it up. I'm running it in a trash can bucket and it looks like the lower unit is wet. But I'm just not sure...

Re: 1949 Mercury Super 5

It's been awhile since I've run one, but I believe there is a little relief hole in the rear. Bottom line, though, if you have not replaced the waterpump impeller, and your buddy doesn't know when it was last done, then go ahead and do it. Cheap insurance... Check out www.oldmercs.com for parts, manuals, etc.
