I have a 1978 merc engine and the engine lock down switch was disconnected and now it does not work. does anybody know where the wire would be on the wire, or how i can fix it so the clamps stay down on the bar.

Re: engine lock down

The manual lock down mechanism used a spring to pull the clamps onto the tilt pin.

Re: engine lock down

At the base of the shift shaft, there is a plastic fitting that moved the locking rod up and down, as you shift from forward to neutral and then to reverse. Shift the motor and push on the locking rod to see if it move up and down. If not check the pivot and shift rod fitting.
