I have a '91 or '92 Mercury V-6 175 HP 2.5 litre. Serial #OD223009. Yesterday, the tilt stuck in the full down position. Tilt motor runs, and fluid is leaking, but I'm not yet sure where it's leaking from.

I need to get the boat out of the water today to investigate. With it stuck full down, I'm concerned about ground clearance for the skeg of the lower unit while the boat is on the trailer.

Is there a way to manually tilt this bruiser up, and keep it there, enough to get some more ground clearance?

Any suggestions on how to start troubleshooting this condition?

THANKS

There is a manual release valve, I believe low on the starboard side. Turn it left a couple of turns with a screwdriver, and then you should be able to muscle the motor to the up position and get the tilt/trailer lock tab under it.

Been there, done that.

hope it helps

THANKS, j-martin. Hopefully they designed it to be accessible with the engine in the full-down position!!

Wherever it is, that's exactly what it is there for, so it will be accessible.
