70hp mariner water pump

This might be a silly question .
when I was changing the impeller for the first time the key fell out were does it go back in at.

there is a flat spot cut in the driveshaft right inside the pump housing... the key sits on there (use some grease to hold it on) then slide the impeller ontop of the key lining up the keyway
