This is my first post. I would like to extend a sincere thanks to everybody who has responded to other questions - These responses have given me the information necessary to (partially) rebuild my 1965 Mercury 650 4 Cylinder Outboard within the past few weeks. Prior to this I had ZERO engine, outboard, electrical or mechanical knowledge or experience...

I am almost complete!

Question regarding Choke Solenoid - Is it OK that the 'Plunger' (5/8 inch metal cylinder that moves up and down within the actual Solenoid) is able to 'seperate' itself from the Solenoid? Should the 2 parts be somehow permanently joined?

Thanks, Simon.

no its supposed to do that.... it should be a metal cylinder that just moves up and down within the solenoid. it is posssible that it falls out and its rare but no big deal just pop it back in.
