remove a mercury 65 hp from boat

hello will i be able to remove an old merc 65 hp (1969') from the transom by jacking up on the motors keel and just pulling it away when it clears the top of transom. the transom is rotted and i don't want to move the boat over the road with the weight of the motor there. thanks any other ideas appreciated

That will work, however, jacking up a motor is tricky. How about jacking the trailer tongue and having some one steady the motor, after it clears the transom. Alternatively you can bolt a piece of strap iron to the circle of 5/16" flywheel bolts and use a cum along to lift the motor straight up.

not by your self, it will take atleast one other strong guy. and have a place ready for the motor.
