30 hp mariner will not crank

i have a 30 hp meriner came on a boat i bought yesturday. It was cranking fine i hit the electric choke toggle switch and tried to start it again and it wont crank. I have power at the igition coil and starter when i turn the key. what could be the problem?

is the starter spinning? if not you need a new starter

It's not doing anything, it was cranking the I hit the switch and nothing

i would take the starter out and jump it with some jumper cables to see if it spins, or if you have a shop near you that can test it. i just got my starter fixed because it wasnt doing anything.

STOP!!

Go to the Engine FAQs Forum and do the simple troubleshooting in "Outboard won't start".

90% of the time it is a wiring or fuse problem, not the starter.

just to let everyone know it was a loose ground on the starter. thanks for the help
