I'm getting ready to paint and decal my 57' Mark 30E. She's a runner, not a museum piece. (I do want a 'nice' finish, however.)

I'm planning on NOT dismantling and stripping, but rather, clean, lightly sand, and shoot.

Question: am I better off with the Alkyd Enamel sold by nymarine.ca, or going with the lacquer sold by oldmercs.com?

Thoughts?

I work with enamel usually. It's been 25 years since I've sprayed lacquer.
How 'bout longevity?
Might either react badly with the original paint?

??? Joe ???

Joe as you already know enamel don't give the best finish but it will hide quicker than lacquer and with todays paint if you need more depth you can clear coat. I would use what I am use to painting with the enamel

Very well; at least I won't be so nervous!

How do folks get the 'rub rail' or 'chrome' polished section of the motor to shine again, and anything special to keep it that way?

I just used a chrome polish on mine and a little steel wool on the stubborn spots. I used Extreme polish pads. but anything will do . post how the paint job turned out and maybe how it stands up. i have to do mine
