Drop the LU, you may have sheared the vertical shaft.
Was it still pumping water?
The shaft can shear in any one of three places, the spline on top, the step just below the water pump, or right at the pinion.
Have you remembered when you banged the prop hard enough to bend the crank? That impact may have also weakened the vertical shaft and now that the motor performance has been repaired the shaft can't handle full power.
