I am currently rebuilding a 2001, 3 cylinder,50 horse mercury, and my supplier gave me forged wiseco pistons and rings.
While reading the manual there is mention of a chrome piston ring that goes on top and a steel one that goes in the second groove. Is this only when I use original mercury parts or should I look for the same thing with wiseco rings?
Thank you for your advice and opinion.

Re: wiseco piston rings

the wiseco pistons should all be the same, I run all my racing motors with wiseco racing pistons, as far as I know they are all the same ..... if I am understanding you correctly ..... they are really good pistons .....

Thanks for your comment.
I have no doubt about the quality of the pistons. My concern is about the piston rings. Are both rings the same or is one steel and the other chrome, like the original mercury rings?
