i just bought a 16 lund with a mercury 1988 classic 50 power tilt and trim electric start the motor runs very strong at full throttle but at idle or slow troll it wants to die. the squeeze ball on the fuel line seems to lose pressure looks to be brand new.what kind of fuel delivery system do outboard motors use is it a pump or what and are they easy to change?the fuel tank is built in.

It is 45 hp. That design was sold by merc for a very long time. It was originally a 50 hp engine, but this was when hp was measured at the powerhead. In '86 or '87, hp had to measured at the prop. This resulted in the same engine to be classified at a 45 hp engine. Since it was the same very poplular design sold for many years as a 50hp engine, they named it the "Classic 50".
