2001 225 hp Mercury Optimax Saltwater? How do they rate?

I have an opportunity to buy a pair of used 225s...anyone out there know how they rate? 1000 hours each - newer lower ends w / warranty. Are the Optimax a good engine? Thanks very much.

The early Opti-POPS had a terrible reputation for blowing engines. Don't know any specifics, but with all I have read I would stay away from anything Opti before 2004 models.
Do a search here or on Google, you should finds 100's of posts.

1999-2001 Opti's are NOT good years. They had a BIG problem with them. Some of them lasted though! 1000 hrs. is a bit MUCH. Before you buy them, have a dealer retrieve a download for you. It'll give you the run history and hard faults.
