I have a 225 hp. Mercury Offshore (carburated model) on a 21ft. Skeeter Baypro boat. I was wondering roughly what kind of gas milage I can expect to get with this rig. I normally run about 4000 rpms.

I have a 225 mercury offshore, carb model on a 24ft grady white and I get around 14 gph @ 3,000 Rpm and 20 gph @ 4,000 RPM avarage is around 1 1/2 mpg but with (4) people splitting the cost it ain't that bad, but the newer engines are getting around 4 MPG

What are your units? Are the miles nautical or statutory? and the gallons, are they US gallons or UK?

I use around 1.3litres/nm@4000rpm from the boat in my signature. (The engine is 220hp)

Simple rule of thumb for carbed 2 strokes is that at WOT you will use the horsepower of the engine divided by 10 in US gallons per hour.

Cheers..........

Horsepower at whatever RPM you are running at, divided by 12.5= GPH.

Achris I would have to say your factor is closer to what I have at about 4,000 rpm I use around 18 to 22 GPH all up to the conditions I am in, and at 5,200 RPM she will jump way up to 28 to 32 GPH all up to the conditions weight, tide, wind, etc. that engine use a lot of fuel as to compare as your HPFI model's but we use what we have for the time being.

P.S. and I am using all us standards not metric or liters good luck guys Bob

I have a pair of 250 "04" mercs, at about 4000rpms my smartcraft says i get about 1.4mpg, so just a guess or a ballpark figure for you i would say about 2.7-3 mpg with your motor.

the problem is with the carburator models vs the fuel injected motors are almost double the fuel consumption. or verry verry close. that is also speaking the older engines like my 1996 225 Hp offshore is a gas guzzler.
