I think I need a diiferent prop. The motor came with a 2 blade prop on it, I don't know the size or pitch. It takes me half the length of my local lake to get on plane. Once I'm planing I have to back off before I'm wound out or I'll run out of lake. I'm pushing a 16 foot Fiberglass Chris Craft Corsair with this motor. It's a pretty heavy boat for it's size. Any help would be appreciated to point me in the right direction. Thanks.......

Porto, It sounds like to much prop, ck the end of the prop behind the nut and retainer for a part number to tell what you have got--Bob

Re: 1962 Mercury 700 --> prop help

The numbers are corroded and can't be read, I can't make out any of them.

I found another prop this weekend, very similar to the one I'm using except it's brass instead of alloy. I tried it on my motor and had the same troubles. I had my wife and our 2 small children with me and the boat wouldn't even plane. I dropped them off on shore and I was able to plane. The numbers on the brass prop are: (Quick Silver) 48-29658 42-17. What do I need to get the boat to plane with a load in it? Thanks.......

The brass prop is a 17' pitch prop. assuming the engine is well and no knowing the load your trying to push probably a 13' pitch if the 17 wouldn't plane the hull

Thanks Laddies, Should I stick with a 2 blade prop or would I be better with a 3 blade? Thanks again......

Re: 1962 Mercury 700 --> prop help

I'm wondering if this prop will work (fit) on my motor. It's a 13 DIAMETER X 13 PITCH 48-37898 A3 15 SPLINE prop. My motor is 1962 Merc 700, 70 hp. I don't know how to cross-check or reference any source on whether this prop will work or not. Any help would be appreciated.....
