Re: spark plugs for 2002 225 Optimax

I don't know of any switches from the PZF. It is a great plug but it burns in the wallet. I have surviced many optimax'. Some people didn't like the idea of spending 16.50 a plug and tried something else my advice is don't. Those NGKs are expinsive for a reason, they have an iridium tiped electrode that doesn't wear near as fast as anything else. Since the Opti. is a dfi the spark plug is igniting a stratified fuel charge which requires a much hotter spark. The CDMs throw about 50,000 volts each time, wich will make short work of most plugs. stick with the NGKs!

The proper spark plug for that engine is the NGK "IZFR5G" the Mercury part number is "33-889597 001" with a srp of $15.10 Make sure to gap then at (0.031) and don't use a gapper that pushes on the center electrode.
