Timing 1978 Mercury Mariner 175

I have replaced the stator on this motor and can only get 4200 rpms and it should be 5500. How do I line up the flywheel Is there marks, when reinstalling it and what is the timing procedure.I know the settings. <br />Last could this be another problem<br />There seems to be two setting one ATDC and one BTDC<br />Help Please<br /><br />Thank You<br />joe

If you undid the eight bolts instead of buying a puller - you need to put #1 at TDC and then make sure the flywheel is bolted accordingly.<br /><br />The timing and sync procedurs in any of the major manuals take it from there fine. I did one yesterday. <br /><br />Missing PRM's could mean it's overpropped also.<br /><br />-W
