What does it do and why is it $65 and can I get by with something else (maybe from an electrical supply or take direct readings and convert)? Also, is there a cheaper way to test electrical components than purchasing wireing harness testers for each componenet at $30 + each - can I make my own or use a clamp-on type testor?

The DVA meter will let you know exacty what is wrong with the ign system, Snap-on makes a variance of the device as well.

TMD

The adapter at www.esitest is 35.00 US. Trent says you use the ac scale and convert reading by X 1.414, should get you close. You should be able to make the jumper wires. You did not say what engine, year, model , number of cylinders. To do a lot of ignition work, I would buy peak reading meter. Also see
www.stevensinstrument.com .
