I cannot get my 1996 225-hp Mercury to slow idle. It runs great in every other rmp range besides the low low 700 range. It spits, sputters, misses, and even cuts off at times. It has brand new NKG plugs and all of the wiring looks great.

Any help and/or advice would be welcomed.

Dallis

What sort of boat do you have this motor mounted on?

could be that you need to trim the motor to level while idling in order to lift the idle relief holds out of the water.

those motors should idle at 750 rpm +- 50, and I'd shoot for the high side.

Scott..

20' Privateer Roamer II. The motor sits pretty flat but I will try tilting it a bit. Thanks.

Dallis

I have no idea about hours. I know that the compression is great on all 6 cylinders, new plug, and it runs like a scalded dog. BUT....when i slow her down for slow trolling she spits, misses, and hates me.

Is the honeycomb the area in front of my carbs?
