mercury kiekhaefer 1940's value and year

I have an old engine that is in great shape I had it reconditioned and kept it original but didn't know what year it is or the aprox value, anyone help please. serial number is 124072 and it is a kd4.

Those old 6hp Rockets are awesome old motors. There's not a whole lot of them out there. Western Auto Wizard also had a motor that was built from that design. It had different shrouds, but the motors were the same.

Although not common, they're not really uncommon, either. The KD4s in barn fresh shape typically run $50-$100 at swap meets. Really clean ones might go for a bit more...
