I have been trying to take out the
frozen steering cable on my bass tracker...there
are two black bolts holding the cable on both sides and a silver bolt on the right side if you
look at the engine from the back...someone told me
I needed to remove the silver bolt and then the cable would slide out...I havent been able to remove the silver bolt...

Re: Frozen Steering Cable - Mercury Tracker

I'm not sure which silver bolt you are talkin about, the one on the steering rod, or the one that attahes this rod to the engine.
But it's probably the froze-up problem you are looking for. All I can tell you is lotts of bolt-blaster like WD40 or liquid wrench, tapping and rubber mallet. Watch the threads, that you don't mushroom them.
Where in Florida are ya? If you are within 50miles of Lehigh, Email me, I'll come help ya this Saturday.
