I HAVE BEEN FIGHTING THIS THING FOR A WHILE NOW. NEW GAS LINE, TANK, CLEANED CARB, NEW PLUGS. <br />THE MOTOR IS RUNNING ABOUT HALF POWER, AND IT IS MISSING. WHEN IDLING IT STAYS RUNNING BUT EVERY FEW SECONDS IT POPS. WHEN I PUT IT IN GEAR AND OPEN IT UP IT SEEMS ABOUT HALF POWER AND IT WILL RUN FOR A LITTLE BIT THEN POP, AND WHEN IT POPS IT SEEMS LIKE IT GETS THE POWER IT SHOULD HAVE BUT THAT ONLY LAST FOR A SPLIT SECOND. IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS RUNNING ON ONE CYLINDER THEN THE OTHER ONE IS KICKING IN EVERY ONCE AND A WHILE. WHATS THE DEAL?

Need all the pertnant info on the engine and where you run it. DETAILS please.....

While it running...Check for spark at each plug first. If no fire on one. Swap the coils and see if the problem moves.

I RUN IT ON MY FISHING BOAT ON THE LAKE. I USE IT ON A LAKE WHERE THERE IS A 10HP MOTOR RESTRICTION SO TO FISH THERE THIS SUMMER I WANT TO GET IT RUNNING AGAIN. THE MOTOR IS AN OLDER 9.8HP MERCURY 110. I DON'T KNOW THE YEAR EXACTLY BUT I WOULD SAY IT IS FROM THE 70'S. IT HAD BEEN SITTING FOR A COUPLE YEARS IN THE GARAGE UNTIL THIS SPRING. BEFORE IT WAS PUT AWAY IT RAN GOOD. THE GAS WAS NEVER RAN OUT BEFORE IT WAS SET IN THE CORNER OF THE GARAGE. I DID CLEAN THE CARB, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS TOTALLY CLEANED OUT.DO YOU THINK THERE COULD STILL BE SOMETHING IN THE CARB CAUSING THIS PROBLEM? I ALSO READ ON THIS SITE ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THE FLOAT STICKING WHEN THEY SIT FOR A WHILE AND I THINK I GOT THAT FIXED, BECAUSE THE PRIMER BULB WOULD NOT GET HARD AND GAS WAS COMING OUT OF THE TOP OF THE CARB,BUT THAT ISN'T A PROBLEM ANYMORE. THE PRIMER BULB GETS FIRM WHEN I FIRST GET IT GOING, BUT I NOTICE THAT IT DOES SOFTEN UP IF I AM RUNNING THE MOTOR FASTER. I TRIED PUMPING THE BULB FAST TO KEEP IT HARD WHILE RUNNING THE MOTOR FASTER AND THERE WAS NO DIFFERENCE.THAT IS ALL I CAN THINK OF RIGHT NOW, HOPEFULLY THIS WILL HELP WITH FIGURING THIS THING OUT.
