New to the forums. I have a 1995 Mercury 8 hp Outboard 2 stroke. It ran fine all last year. Stored in my garage for the winter. It's getting fuel fine but seems to not be getting spark. Used the service manual to test ignition parts and the trigger is testing bad. Is it normal for this to go bad from sitting or is there likely something else wrong. Thanks in advance.

Not usually but they can. Have you tried disconnecting the kill switches?

With the two switches disconnected it should run assuming there is an issue with one of the switches?

If you are confident that you performed the tests correctly. Then yes the trigger is bad.

When doing the resistance test on the trigger it shows no resistance. This would lead me to believe that the trigger is bad. I will order one then go from there.
