i have a brand new mercury 2017 60hp. Been out less than 10 times. While driving down the lake Sunday it hesitated and then stopped. Starter will not reengage the flywheel. Tilted the motor up to inspect propeller and hot water came out of the holes where the control cables from the tiller go into the cowling. Got towed in and taken to dealer. Some water still in bottom of cowling and when we removed spark plugs there was water in cylinder. Motor is locked up. Dealer is having a hard time determining where the water came from. They ask me if the boat had been under water. it had not, we were just driving down the lake. Any ideas?

Which one? Dealer having problems and Mercury warranty is still saying it must have been underwater.

It's your motor. You should talk to Mercury. Sounds like a dealer ploy to get paid twice. Once by you and once by Mercury.

Tell Mercury you want a new motor (if it's still under warranty) period.

A friend bought a new Merc and it failed after a couple of trips, they spent most of one summer getting it fixed by the local marine boys but it still wouldn't run properly, so they replaced it with another make; so far 3 yrs. in and that's going strong. They should have just asked for a replacement!
