Hi Tony,.... Bein' outboards, yer lookin' at 'bout $40,000. for a repower,....

Makes yer ole boat much more attractive,....

'n as you know, a compression test is a better indicator of motor health than an hour meter,....

Hey Bondo.......was going to let you know if I went this way.
40K would be for new power........yes makes the SBC look cheap!
Going to kick the tires tonight........if I can get it cheap enough I may consider it!
Agree on the comp test but would assume these engines are shot.

Give her a compression test...even cold she?ll give a good indication with the throttle wide open. Also have a good look at the top of pistons down the plug holes. Look for signs of corrosion and leakage around the heads. Also look for signs of rot at the transom, given the weight of the big smokers and power. If she is good and you take her...Disconnect oil injection and and pre mix 50/1
Good luck

kTony, we just bought a 1984 22 foot Mako Center console with twin 2002 115hp four stroke EFI.
She is a beast, starts everytime like a car, quiet, no stink. .
The point, you need to shop North America ,prices vary.
Don't waste your time pulling the cover off to see if she has carbs you dont want a carb(s) at any cost.

What does this mean? Tony is from Long Island - Do you know Long Island is part of the USA and by default, North America?

Went to look at the boat last week.
It was VERY rough......I assumed the engines were shot.
Looked like it hadn't been used in a year.
I offered him $4K........he didn't take it.

Guess I'll stick w/ my SBC right now.
