Good day
Thank you for taking the time to look at this post .
The engine in question is a 1983 80hp 4 cyl Mercury . The control box has the 5 pin out at the front . My question is regarding 2 tachs . I would like to know if they can be used on this engine . Neither have any adjustment options . They are both 6000 rpm max .
Thank you for your time .
Al

It would help to know what they were off of. Outboard tachometers are bit driven by the number of cylinders but rather by the number of pulses from the charging system stator. A 12 "pole" stator delivers 6 "pulses" to the tach. So unless you know whether the tach was from a battery (car type) or magneto (outboard) ignition system we cannot give a positive answer. I would suggest it would register, but probably not correctly.

Thank you for your response . Both were used on inboard motors . So i am guessing they are battery car type. Thank you for your time.
