Hello,
I have a 1982 60 HP Mercury outboard with a Commander shift box on a Lund 18 foot boat that we use for waterfowl hunting. I have an issue with the shift box not locking into neutral which is not a good thing. I am going to be taking this shift box off to look into the cause and I am wondering if someone has an idea of just what I should be looking for when I do this repair. I am thinking it could be the locking ring that is not working correctly. Any information concerning this issue would be of great help. I do have the SELCO repair manual an break down for this year and model of motor and control box.

Thanks,

DeepCMark58A,
I have been looking in my Seloc manual and I see only a Detent Ball Follower # 18 in the Exploded drawing and a Detent Ball # 19. Is one of these what you are talking about.

Yep one of those 2 is the culprit be careful when you take the controller apart the part is probably in there somewhere.
