I have a mercury 90 HP 4 stroke that i just installed new rings and honed the cylinders. I have about an hour run time on the motor. Im building a mercury 115 4 stroke that uses the same piston rings. Can I hone the cylinders on the 115 and reuse the piston rings from the 90hp. I not going to use the 90Hp anymore.

Thanks

No, the piston rings are a wear item. One-time use

New rings in a used / honed cylinder would need to seat.----So rings with 1 hr on them are OK too.---But everybody has a different understanding of fine machinery too.

Surely silly to reuse old rings ? They bed into the liners in their own way.

Why would you make a running 90 HP motor inoperable since it is worth some money. Why not put new rings in the big motor and not have to worry about the outcome. And there is a fair chance you can break one of the rings removing them so you would need to get at least one set anyway. Not worth it in my view.
