Welcome aboard.

Not finding a match on the serial number - Can you check it again?

To help ID the motor - How many cylinders and are there any decals on the cowling or midsection?

To get a very rough idea to start with, you can roughly judge the year by the style of logo. Look at the following photo. Which matches yours the closest?

EDIT: this miserable forum setup will not let me link to a picture not hosted here. Please just google "Mercury outboard year by decal" and you should find the picture I mean.

Is this a very small motor? Like something you could lift by yourself?

It looks like that belgium SN falls within the range of a Model 40, 4hp, also called a gnat. However, I do know that serial number ranges can overlap between different HP sizes. Does yours have a fuel tank right on the motor?

If I'm way off, posting a picture would help alot.

Cross-referenced between Belgian, Canadian and American serial number ranges...started with 1972 but number range(s) were too low...fits in the 1973 7.5 HP range.
