I am rebuilding a 1982 Mercury 50HP 4 cylinder, I have a new block and have ordered a rebuild kit with new pistons, I have the Pistons and connecting rods together, what I need is to borrow or rent a set of ring compressors to get the engine back together, anyone have a set I can borrow or rent for a couple of days?

on the Mercury 50 hp 4 cylinder there is no head, they go in via the crank case with the crank and all at the same time. It takes four like in the above photo.

It can be tricky, but I've put them in without the clamps. Sturdy paint sticks, cut to about the width of a popsicle stick work well, as does a second set of steady hands.

My preferred way is to stick the pistons in and then the crankshaft. Makes it a little harder to torque the rod bolts, but it can be done with the right wrench. Also have to make sure you don't drop any of the crank needle into the abyss.

I've done 3 cylinder 65s all in one go using paddlepop sticks and I think maybe even a screwdriver, just need to take your time & be careful.

I agree and understand that, how much do you need, and where are you located?
