1987 35hp mercury outboard project

I'm in the process of bringing back to life 1987 35 hp mercury outboard and currently in the process of cleaning, et.al. the carb. I want to remove the inlet needle but the holding pins seem pretty tight. My experience is that they are removed in a specific direction and as I don't want to break a pole holding the pin could someone enlighten me on this process. Thanks

I've had good luck searching for the service manuals for my boats. Also a parts list/diagram may help. Try these and search on google ....

From the above (if I have the correct page) IT looks to slide in /out. Try soaking in pb blaster and tappy tap each way lightly to see if it moves at all ...
