I have a 50hp Mercury that is slipping under load. We hit shell a few weeks ago and it hung up in forward gear. We were able to disconnect the shift cable and get it out of gear and it seemed to work fine getting us back to dock. Next time out it began slipping out of gear aand we thought the prop had spun. Replaced the prop and that did not solve the problem. Changed oil in lower unit and no metal shavings. Could it possibly be shift cable? It seems to run smooth at low speed but when engaging higher gears it will slip out.
