Found a 9.8hp 110 outboard for sale and am going to check compression before I buy it. What would be the minimum compression I would want to see before walking away from this purchase? I know I should also check lower unit lube condition too. Anything else I should be wary of with this particular year and model? Thanks for your advice.

Dozen outboard sites that should be able to help if you can supply the norm: SERIAL NUMBER. If an older Merc a guess would be 110-130 Dry. No more than 10 Lbs apart (two cylinder). No more than 10 Lb difference on wet comp test between the dry and wet readings.

Check for crumbling insulation on wires.----If you buy it you should install a new impeller.
