1992 mercury 40hp has no spark

I have a 1992 40hp mercury outboard and I can not get it to spark. I have replaced the spark plugs and even put a light up spark plug tester on it and it failed to light up. My boat serial number is 0d106222. Everything I read says it is either a stator or kill switch but I am not exactly sure how to test them. Any information would be helpful.

Disconnect black and yellow wire at power pack and see if you have spark. For more test procedures google cdi electronics trouble shooting.
