Hi,I looked at a boat this weekend with a 2002 Mercury on it. The owner hooked up a hose to the engine and attempted to start it. Would not start until he moved the throttle. He Only let the engine run for about one minute as I was watching the temperature gauge needle rise to 175 immediately then he shut the engine off. He stated water from the tell tale starts coming out when the temperature goes over 175. Water was coming out of the prop area. I took his word. I'm confused it seems like the engine was going to overheat. What do you think?

If the muffs on the hose aren't lined up properly, or the water pressure isn't right, water may not flow well through the motor, it can also fry the impeller.

175* isn't good, and this probably isn't the first time he's done this, it should be tested on water to see if it the cooling system is working correctly.
