I have a 1986 long shaft 60hp that broke the driveshaft in the lower unit. The motor runs fine, and I don't have a ton of money to buy a new one. I have found a couple of motors for sale, but I'm not sure if they are compatible. One is a 70 hp and the other is an 80 hp. They are all 3 cylinder motors, and by looks, are very similar. Is there a resource I can access to check compatibility with my motor?

You will need the serial numbers of all three units. Then find your unit in the mercury outboard parts section of the catalog on I-Boats (top of page) Get the proper part number (oem) and then look at the other two units and that part number. If the numbers match then you will know. Many parts are the same, motor to motor, especially from the same era.

My serial number is A109823
The two motors I'm looking at are:
70 hp- 4719182
80 hp- 5142247

I don't see the post you're referring to.

Look at Mercury Motor Parts (upper part of this page) and search for what you are looking for. I will give it an effort and try to help you in case this isn't showing up for you.

I could only reconcile the 70 HP and the part numbers do not match. I could not find an 80 HP with a serial number that remotely resembled what you have. Sorry. I did find that some of the USA made 50 HP motors from your age estimate did use the same long shaft drive shaft. Your part number is 45-88024 A2

The 80 wont fit...You need a unit from a 3 cylinder 50/60/70.650/700
